Restaurant Zvonice

Restaurant Zvonice

Some of the quirkiest restaurants in the city are largely hidden from view. In this case you can see this restaurant from hundreds of metres away, you just don’t realise it’s a restaurant because it’s built into a bell tower. In Czech bell is “zvon” hence the name of the Restaurant Zvonice meaning “Restaurant in the belfry”.

Who Comes to Zvonice?

Like I said, people who appreciate quirky and/or odd places will come here because how many times have you eaten in a belfry? People who appreciate very good and very well-described food will come here. It’s not just mushrooms, they’ll tell you exactly what kind. When something is with cranberries that means real cranberries, not jam. And when it says vegetables you’ll find it’s described how the vegetables will be presented i.e. julienne is popular here. Also people who are happy to pay CZK300 for soup will come here. Yes, this is fine dining and you are paying top dollar for the experience.

My favourite here? well people who know me know that I constantly trawl the city for decent lamb so at Restaurant Zvonice the Lamb Shank in the Old Bohemian Cuisine section calls me. Although it’s better known as a dinner location you’ll find Restaurant Zvonice does a popular lunch menu 1130 to 1400 which will be a reduced choice but will take elements from the main menu. Note that the website menu does not show the EU Allergen codes but the actual menu that you get at the table does list the ingredient codes.

Is Restaurant Zvonice Scenic?

If you are seated at a table adjacent to one of the windows then you could consider it as scenic but for most of the restaurant interior you treat it as a kind of “broken” view of the distance but I would not go so far as to say scenic.

Special Deal

Watch out for the cash discount on the “Classic” menu. Occasionally they give a 20% discount if paying in cash CZK, EUR or USD. This will be clearly shown if you check the “Classic” menu on the website.

Accessing Restaurant Zvonice

henry's tower in prague at night with snow on roof
Henry’s Tower – Restaurant Zvonice is at the window level 7-8.

It’s literally a 2 minute walk from the middle of Wenceslas Square. Zvonice is located in Henry’s Tower (pictured at night) along with a couple of other businesses (including a Whiskey Museum!) but the restaurant covers the 7th and 8th floors. Don’t let that put you off though as it has a lift or after a nice meal you might appreciate walking back down the stairs. This is definitely NOT a barrier-free location and MIND YOUR HEAD whilst in the restaurant as there are many low beams.
