Prague and Amadeus Filming Locations
The multi-award winning 1984 film Amadeus was partly filmed in Prague. In this case, Prague is supposed to act as Vienna would have looked in the 1780s. Actually that’s not particularly difficult as much of Prague still dates to this era. The director, Miloš Forman, looked at potentially filming in Vienna (too expensive) or Budapest (too shabby) and bearing in mind that’s too shabby to look like a street in the 1780s!!
Even in Prague it would have been fairly costly but I guess they also had to factor in the disruption to the city. The producers were able to isolate 5 main areas for external filming. Then by shooting of the film from different angles in these locations they’ve made it look like several different places at different times of the year. Specifically here I’ll be referencing scenes from the longer version of the film i.e. the Directors Cut.
Prague and Amadeus Filming Locations Tour
If you want to tour the filming locations with me and get some quirky information about the film and the actors, this can be arranged as a Private Tour. The basic central locations tour will take around 2 hours (one location is closed during winter months and four are not accessible to the public). If you elect to add places outside the centre then allow 3 hours and there will be an added transport cost.
