Holešovice Market
Holešovice Market (pronounced like hol-lesh-oh-vitser), the site of a former royal slaughterhouse, celebrates 130 years in 2025. As well as the history there are some good reasons to visit for both locals and tourists alike. It contains a wide range of commercial activities including parcel pickup, self-storage, cooking lessons, DIY shop, garden centre, vet, pet shop, bars, nightclubs, dive shop, cycle shop, drug store, ironmongers and much more. So it’s safe to say that you get a real mix of people.

Specifically for tourists it is the food element that draws people here during the day and early evening. The layout of the Holešovice Market is clearly defined but food areas generally revolve around halls 22 and 25 with a couple more standalone restaurants.
Hala 22

When you enter by the main gate adjacent to the tram stop you walk into the main north-south boulevard. Most tourists are heading for Hala 22. This is the covered market where you buy a selection of fruit/veg/meat/fish/eggs/cakes/honey etc. It’s worth doing a loop around the market especially for fruit/veg because prices vary. There are not any places to sit within the covered market so you are encouraged to use external seating.

The Holešovice covered market at Hala 22 has more than 80 stalls. If you are familiar with with English Victorian-style covered markets then this will look the same. Monday to Friday it opens 0730-1700. On Saturday 0730-1400. Closed on Sunday.
The Food Trucks

Just before you get to Hala 22 you see signs for the “Food Truck Point”. Depending on the time of year you’ll find a range of places to buy food/drink and a lot of common seating (uncovered).
Chefparade
I wrote about this on the separate Chefparade post. Basically if you have booked a cooking-class experience with Chefparade Studios this is where you come to do your food lessons. Sometimes they have an option where you go to the covered market in Hala 22 to buy ingredients which you then cook.
Nightlife
Around the time that the food trucks start shutting down around 8pm you’ll start to see a different set of people arriving at the bars and more upmarket restaurants. Often this will be an aperitif to then moving on to the SaSaZu nightclub (Hala 25) or the market runs regular ticketed concerts in Hala 17.
Getting to the Holešovice Market

The best way to get here is either by tram or a combination of metro/tram. Trams 1, 6, 14, 17 and 25 all stop here. If you are using the metro then on the Red “C” Line get off at Vltavska and all of the trams above go through here. It’s only one stop to “Holešovice Trziste”. When you get off the tram you walk across the road and enter the market via the old main gate next to Hala 2 (pictured).
If you are in Karlin and you want to come here then head for the Libensky Most which is a brand new footbridge connecting Karlin with Holešovice and the market is opposite the bridge
