One Minute Film Museum – Temporary Activity until 15-09-2024

Something a bit different. Inspired by the long-running “Croatian One-Minute Film Festival” here we have a collection of 35 examples of film-shorts from different countries. To put that in perspective, it means they have chosen 35 films out of more than 11,000 that have been entered into the festival since 1993. So until September 15th 2024 you can visit what they call the One Minute Film Museum and see some of the works.

The One Minute Film Museum is housed over three floors of a very historic building called the House at the Golden Grapes on the Lesser Town Square just a 3 minute walk from the Charles Bridge. The building has a lift if you need it otherwise you can take the stairs. Only the first and second floors have the film-shorts as the top floor is for people who actually want to try and make and/or edit a short film.

The films range from fun to downright spooky. Some have no language. Others may be in different languages but with English subtitles. Some films have real people and others are animated but they all have one thing in common in that YOU HAVE TO WATCH TO THE END. This should not be an issue as no film is longer than 60 seconds. The trick is to hang around until you see the credits on a screen then you know that the film will play from the start.

My Thoughts

I’d have paid the entry fee just to be able to go into the building and look at the painted ceilings. It’s an odd collection and I found no pattern to how the films were selected. Some are made for fun, others have a strong message and others leave you thinking ….why? My favourite film was called Candy Crime by a UK based producer from the 2014 Festival. It’s a strange story of a little girl and her sweets. I watched it several times during my visit initially just to enjoy the film but then to understand how the maker had scripted the scenes. I spent an enjoyable hour watching the films.
