Duplex Nightclub

Duplex Nightclub – Wenceslas Square

Duplex Nightclub describes itself as the best club in Prague. To be honest, with the multi-floor technical layout and top DJs, I think it’s got a good claim and it’s definitely in the top 3 in the city. At the time of writing, DJ Magazine had voted Duplex Nightclub at number 39 on the top 100 clubs in the world. Duplex Nightclub is open everyday 2200-0500 but there are a few things to be aware of if you plan to visit.

Duplex Nightclub Booking in Advance

For a start you have to be 18 or over to enter Duplex and you’ll need to prove it with official ID before they’ll even let you in the door. Duplex Nightclub has a reputation for attracting internationally recognised top DJs to it’s cavernous main dancefloor including Testo, Fedde Le Grande and Paul Oakenfold to mention a few. These guys normally play Saturday nights and tickets are sold way in advance for these “Special” events. Otherwise, any event on any night can be booked in advance or paid at the door but in general if you pre-book tickets then you skip the regular entry line on the night.

Duplex Nightclub Pricing

For the “Special DJ” events a regular ticket is going to be around 30-40 Euros with VIP tickets around 80-90 Euros but there are only two or three of these specials in any given month. All other events have student admission (ISIC card required to prove you are a student) with discounted prices from 0-9 Euros (yes, be one of the first 200 students to book in advance and entry is free). Then there are regular tickets up to @20 Euros. Then there are VIP tickets which can be as little as 30 Euros to be in the VIP areas as long as you are happy to be standing. Otherwise there’ll be VIP seated options which will have dedicated waiter/waitress and bottle service.

Duplex Nightclub Layout

The sixth floor (Level 1) is what Duplex Nightclub calls the Mainstream room. This is the floor you arrive at when you get out of the lift. It will have a house DJ, three bars plus food and drink served to tables. It has an internal part and an external terrace. People can dance here but it’s what I consider to be a lounge bar. It’s where you are settled for the evening or you are going to the 7th floor to dance and then returning here. Capacity is around 500 largely seated. Some parts are dedicated for VIP.

The seventh floor (Level 2) is what Duplex Nightclub calls the EDM room (Electronic Dance Music) which you access via the staircase from the sixth floor. This is the main place for dancing. Capacity is around 750 but much of this is dancefloor. There are some high tables on the sides but if you go up the stairs on the 7th floor it leads to a raised gantry area which is reserved VIP seating.

What’s On and Genres

Sunday to Thursday on both floors you’ll have a selection of music based on the house DJ doing the set but they still separate EDM from the more recognised Mainstream content which may be themed based on the event i.e. Hip-Hop, Latino, DnB etc.

Friday and Saturday are a little different at the Duplex Nightclub because you have named DJs doing specific sets on both floors so it’s a case of understanding the interests of the specific DJ to decide what is best for you.

Dress Code

Duplex Nightclub is pretty firm in it’s dress code requirement. In general it says “Smart-casual” but just to define this more accurately it won’t admit you if you look too sporty, wearing shorts, sleeveless shirts or vests, flip-flops, excessively baggy clothes or anything it considers to be “beach attire”.

My Thoughts

Number 39 in the DJ Mag Top100 list

This is a high quality venue with a wide range of music but take some time to research the DJs, their styles and preferences and you won’t be surprised on the night with what they play. At the entry, make sure you have ID, you’re not drunk, don’t sass the security and you’ll be fine. Reviews are somewhat mixed bearing in mind issues with what I have just described with entry and music genre. Security on the door is tight but security within the club is patchy. You may find that your first port of call if you have an issue will be bar staff.
