Prague Tower Park Recreation Area
On the Prague TV Tower post I mentioned this place because although Prague Tower Park would not normally be on your list of places to visit, you will appreciate combining the TV Tower and Tower Park.
When I worked at the TV Tower in 1996/7 this was a public park but the whole area was bought by a business and redeveloped in 2013/14 into more of a recreation area with the addition of a proper restaurant in the Tower and another in the park area itself plus upgraded facilities. When I say “park” it’s really just a flat area of grassed ground but it’s in use all year.
They put the chairs and umbrellas out from the beginning of April and they’ll keep them out as long as they can i.e. end of November if possible. On a warm late afternoon or early evening the place will be buzzing with people standing around drinking cocktails or the more relaxed will be laid out on the grass with Czech beer and pizza. As we reach December the grass gets covered up and they use the space as an ice-rink until spring. Still the food and drink is available but now you’ll find it’s mostly hot drinks.
How to Get to the Prague Tower Park
It’s the same as for the TV Tower. You could drive here as Tower Park has a car park. You could walk here from the Old Town Square in about 35 minutes. But it’s best to use public transport. What I normally do is tell people to use the green metro line and get off at Jiriho z Podebrad (the metro station has a sign of the TV tower). Then when you exit the station walk into the park with the big church. Look anywhere over to your left and you’ll see the Prague TV Tower and the Tower Park entry is to the left at ground level. It’s a 5 minute walk. The Babies crawling up and down the tower? I tell you that story on the Prague City Walking Tour. In 2023 the metro station will be closed at least until October so the best way to get here is to walk to the back of the National Museum and catch either Tram 11 or Tram 13 up the hill. Get off at “Vinohradska trznice” and walk three more blocks up the road.

For Kids
From spring to autumn the kids can run around on the grass inside the fenced park. You can relax on the benches or comfy seats and when they start to get hungry you’ve got pizza on the menu. There’s also a proper mini-golf course attached to the site (CZK100 for kids, bit more for adults and allow 40 minutes to complete the round). Remember that from late November to March they cover the grass with an ice rink which is very popular with local Czechs in the area so fun for kids and also gives the parents a chance for a Hot Alcoholic drink. If your kids like this place then you should definitely visit the Zlute Lazne Recreation Area down by the river.
Miminoo
Miminoo is a kind of Czech slang word which means “baby”. It’s a reference both to the head chef’s feeling for his business and the fact that it sits under the TV Tower with 10 David Cerny Babies attached to it. At first glance it looks like a little bistro and there are some inside tables or you have the option of eating at the bar but it’s setup mostly for outside eating. It’s actually a proper menu with a mostly wide-ranging international selection. If you are in an apartment in the area and you get a nice morning it’s a great place for breakfast.
So if you are in the area and you just fancy kicking off your shoes, wander around the little park, admiring the Prague TV Tower and drinking a cocktail then maybe the Prague Tower Park should be on your list.
