Prague Vinohrady Hotels

Vinohrady (really I should call it by it’s correct name of Royal Vinohrady) is the area on the hill behind the National Museum and extending up to the metro at Flora. The three main roads in the area are Vinohradska, Slezska and Korunni. The area is mainly accessed by tram (including night services on Vinohradska and Korunni) but, it has metro stations at Jiriho z Podebrad (Zizkov, Prague 3 border closest to the Tower Park recreation area), Flora and Namesti Miru. Vinohrady is recognised as a fairly exclusive area especially the part that borders Riegrovy Sady (the park). Most of the Prague Vinohrady hotels are old brick built structures from 1895-1910 with larger high-ceiling rooms favoured by the Prague elite. The Vinohrady area is popular for independent shops, bars and businesses. You can walk it to the Old Town but you might feel more comfortable if you buy a travel pass and use the metro.

5 Star Prague Vinohrady Hotels– Hotel Le Palais

Of all the Prague Vinohrady hotels this is the only 5 star in the area and is located on the far side of Namesti Miru. Very quiet as it’s at the end of a street. Consistently ranked in the top 5 Prague hotels with beautiful rooms, a terrace/garden overlooking the Nusle Valley and a top restaurant. It’s a 10 minute walk to the nearest metro at IP Pavlova but, the tram stop is only 2 minutes. It’s possible to walk to the centre in about 25 minutes. Stylish and luxurious with excellent service. At the time of writing the Wellness area was free for guests use. Personally recommended.

4 Star – Hotel Galileo

Located at Bruselska 3 which is a 5 minute walk to the IP Pavlova metro/tram station or 15 minutes walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. The thing to note here is that half of the hotel is the original Czech classic design but the other half is the ultra-modern annex. Both have tastefully decorated rooms and suites. Some rooms can accommodate extra beds for families. Hotel does various packages and free airport transfers (depending on how much you are spending on your trip). Some small bars and restaurants in the area but, be prepared to be walking a lot. If you are ok to use trams then the no.22 will take you from Mala Strana all the way to IP Pavlova.

4 Star – Hotel Taurus

The Taurus is towards the end of Vinohrady between the Jiriho z Podebrad and Flora metro stations. If you want to go direct to the Old Town Square then its better by metro. But if you just want to save some time to get to Muzeum then take the tram. Like most Prague Vinohrady hotels, it has a lot character and original features in the public areas. The rooms are really divide into two types which I call “modern” i.e. clean lines and colours or “curly” where the furniture has a renaissance feel to it. Big beds here.

4 Star – Courtyard Marriott (Flora)

Courtyard Marriott opened 2006 as part of the overall Flora business/shopping and metro complex at the far end of Vinohrady on the main road with the tram line (Vinohradska). Standard Marriott service and fittings i.e. Frequent Flyer country. Three metro stops to the middle of Wenceslas Square (Mustek) or 4 stops to the Old Town Square. Walking to Wenceslas Square would be about 20 minutes. It also only a 5 minute walk from the New Jewish Cemetery if you fancy seeing Franz Kafka’s grave.

3 Star – Hotel Anna

From the regular 3 star Prague Vinohrady hotels, this is my favourite. It’s in a turn of the Century (that’s the last Century, not the millenium) building in a quiet street just off Vinohradska.

The spec in the rooms is probably a little higher than the Claris and Hotel Anna makes better use of it’s garden by combining a breakfast conservatory with an outside terrace.
