University of New York in Prague – UNYP

This is not NYU. The University of New York in Prague is a private business. It’s the largest English Language higher education institute in the country and has only existed as an accredited higher education institution since 2001 but it’s strength is in it’s partnerships. You’ll see that UNYP offers a range of certification, non-graduate courses, Bachelor degree, Masters, and MBA. This is largely because it offers qualifications given by partner universities in the USA, UK and Europe so you better know who exactly is issuing the qualification at the end of your study. In 2015 is was able to offer an Masters in Psychology which was accredited in Czech and carries the title “Magister” but anything else issued at BA level from UNYP will be the European Baccalaureate.

Subjects such as IT and Business Administration benefit from having UNYP lecturers who also lecture the same subjects at prestigious universities such as the Charles University, VŠE (University of Economics) and the Czech Technical University. There are also vibrant student exchange and study abroad programs.

Some of the Bachelor level subjects can be taken forward to Masters or MBA but not all. Also check the length of the Masters courses because it can be as little as one year for some management qualifications. There are opportunities for internships in Prague and they state that on graduation they have a 99% employment rate.

Location

The main office is in Vinohrady (Prague 2) close to Námestí Míru with other buildings in the city.

Where to Stay to get to and from UNYP

UNYP bought it’s own apartment building called Belgicka Apartments (don’t get it mixed up with Residence Belgicka) so see if you can get in there first. Otherwise, because it’s central you will be paying quite high prices for anything in the surrounding area so consider accommodation a little further away. The Vinohrady campus is on the Green metro line at Námestí Míru so this means any accommodation around stations on that line come into play. Just expect that towards the Dejvice end of the line there’ll be competition from students studying at the Czech Technical University and at the Vinohradska end it will be students from the University of Economics and the Metropolitan. A short tram ride away you’ll find the areas of Vršovice and Nusle which offer reasonably priced accommodation and direct access to UNYP.
