Warm Sun and Spring Inspiration!
Photo: From my garden
March is when Prague gets it's "first Spring". Temperatures rise causing Spring flowers to bloom and drivers to replace winter tyres with summer tyres a lttle too early. Then we'll get Winter's final punch, a cold snap often associated with snow but compared with January and February it's "small beer". It's a tricky time of year as warm weather in March triggers walnut and cherry trees to flower and if we have a hard frost at the wrong time then it'll mean no walnuts or cherries so in some ways it's better to have a cold March and a warm April.
Walking Tours Changes
Things have been ticking along but the season is already picking up. As I have to pay an admin charge on any tickets sold I decided to change things around a bit. I learned from last year that 75% of my clients were couples so I've introduced a "Pair of Tickets" option that works out cheaper than buying single tickets as I can reduce that admin charge. I also introduced a 10% SENIOR discount for those aged 70 or over and a 10% FAMILY discount. I do stress that for a family booking it would most likely work out cheaper to buy a "Reserved" ticket as you pay less in admin charges and it would be a private tour. More on the Prague Walking Tours page.
What's Been Happening on the Site
I've added more than 20 new posts in the last month. A new category called Architecture and Design was added to the site to contain a series of posts aimed at introducing people to the architecture of the city. Other posts covered topics as varied as The Prague Spring Music Festival, United Islands of Prague, Prague Proms, beach life, burlesque, gambling, getting to and from Prague to Plzen and Cesky Krumlov, the Prague Beer Festival and Witches Night (my favourites are at the end of this newsletter). I reduced the number of products visible and added a "Tag Cloud" for people to see the most popular topics.
LinkedIn
I'm now using my old LinkedIn account which was basically just for my engineering contacts but over the last month I've steadily been adding contacts in different areas of Prague activity so feel free to "connect" on my LinkedIn page. My email is fun@livingprague.com.
Memorable moment
On entering the Municipal House at Republic Square to collect tickets for the Prague Proms. I just stood and thought "isn't that the nicest ticket collection office I've ever seen".
In Prague
The city announced that the renovation of the Old Town Hall, only the second renovation since the second world war, would begin in May 2017. The whole process is expected to be completed by October 2018 which is the Centenary of the Republic. They intend doing the renovation in stages but after completion you'll find that the viewing gallery will have anti-suicide netting with viewing points.
March 4th marks the day when the Farmers Markets officially start (check my Naplavka Market page) and it marks to opening of fairground season in the Czech Republic. Castles and Gardens do not open their summer season until April.
Wishing you all a great March. Feel free to follow and share my content. My 3 picks from this month are below.
